Harris, Lorne Robert
Lorne Robert Harris age 81 years, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 6, 2007 in North Sanach BC after a lengthy illness. Lorne was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, February 12, 1926. Survived by his wife Thelma of 58 years, daughters Susan (Calgary), Judith Rybar (Jim), Thunder Bay and son Robert at home, grandson Christopher Rybar (Cara) Thunder Bay, brother Norman, Power View Manitoba. Predeceased by infant son Thomas and sister Bernice Lough. Graduated from University of Manitoba 1949 with a degree in Chartered Accounting articling with George A. Touche & Co. then was President & CEO of Vulcan Machiner & Equipment until his retirement. Lorne & Thelma lived in Kenora where he served as President of the Kenora Kinsmen Club and Kin District Secretary. Upon his move to Thunder Bay he became President of the Port Arthur Rotary Club and served as Rotary Governor for District 558 covering Northern Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Northern Ontario. He was given a Paul Harris Fellowship by the Port Arthur Rotary Club. He was a member of the Sidney Probus Club. He served as National President of the Canadian Association of Equipment Distributors, Chairman of the United Way Campaign & Red Cross and was a Past President of the Thunder Bay Foundation. He enjoyed his summers spent at Trout Lake, golf, curling, gardening, fishing, bridge, baseball, hockey, football, boating, skiing, cryptic crosswords and reading. He had a marvelous sense of humour, was perceptive, realistic, concerned and an original thinker. Special thanks for their loving care to Rev. Rick Root, Dr. C. Cowan and the Peninsula Home Care Nurses. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Lorne's life was held Friday August 10, 2007 at 1:30 at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Sidney, BC.
