Harold (Junior) JohnsonNovember 3, 1932 - May 9, 2003It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announcee the suddenpassing of Harold (Junior) Arthur Johnson of Keewatin on Friday May 9, 2003at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital at the age of 70 years.Junior was born on November 3, 1932 and lived all his life in Keewatin, Hewas actively involved in the community and was best known as KeewatinCurling Club's Icemaker for 33 years. At the time of his death, he waspresident of the Keewatin Senior Men's Curling League and a Board Member ofthe Keewatin Non-Profit Housing Authority. He was an honourary life-memberand Past President of the Keewatin Curling Club and the Past President ofthe Keewatin Kinsmen Club.Junior had a life-long love of basebalol. In his youth he played baseballwith the Keewatin North American Indians and he enjoyed his time on thediamond as an Old Dutch Old-Timer. He was a co-founder and coach of theKeewatin Charlie Brown Little League and coached Midget baseball. When hewasn't on the baseball field he played hockey for the Keewatin Kanucks andKeewatin Millers and coached for the Keewatin Minor Hockey, and served onthe executive of Keewatin Minor Hockey.Junior worked as a technician at Norwesto Communications for 12 years andoccupied a variety of positions at Lindstrom and Nilson for 27 years.Left to cherish his memory is his loving and patient wife Gail, his daughterand son-in-law Lori and David Chow, granddaughters Sara and Stephanie Chow(of Thunder Bay) and his sister and brother-in-law Marlene and LloydBergman. He is also survived by Pearl Christianson and daughter-in-law CyndyJohnson.He will be fondly remembered by his sisters-in-law Lois Christianson,Marilyn Hanstead and Cheryl (Allan) Petrie, nieces and nephews Joy (Glen)Jackson, Lee (Nicky) Dartiailh, Sheila (Kevin) Savary, Mitchell Hanstead,Murray (fianc»e Candra) Hanstead, Darryl (Sheila)Hanstead, Pam (Ted) Sontag,Keith (fianc»e Jen) Petrie and many aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces andnephews.He was predeceased by his only son Barry in 2001, his mother and fatherJoyce and Harold Johnson, his mother and father-in-law Ellen and CarlChristianson, his brother-in-law Bryan Hanstead andnephew Ricky Bergman.Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Junior's life will be held onWednesday, May 14, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Kenora Community Funeral Home.Honourary pallbearers will be nephews Mitchell, Murray and Darryl Hanstead,Keith Petrie, Ted Sintag, Glen Jackson, Nicky Dartiailh and Kevin Savary.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake of the Woods DistrictHospital C.T.
