John Albert CD, beloved father, passed away at Bow Valley Lodge, Calgary, Alta, on Thursday, January 20, 2000, at the age of 74 years. John was born in Port Arthur, Ont. , January 31, 1925. He is survived by his son Greg (Lindsay) of Calgary and a daughter Deborah (Robert) Solc and their children Phillip and Jacqueline, all of Millarville, Alta; four sisters, Ina (Jack) Gault of Thunder Bay, Ont. , Greta (Allan) Currie of Bobcaygen, Ont. , Marion (Richard) Bauer of Oakville, Ont. , Doris (Glen) Simpson of Capreol, Ont. ; sister-in-law Eva Mekkonen of Thunder Bay, Ont. , as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his wife Ellen (Mekkonen), his parents, and a sister Agnes McGillion. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy in the Second World War. After World War II John spent most of his career in the Canadian Air Force. During his military service, John received the Canadian Volunteer Services Medal, the War Medal 1939-45 and the Canadian Forces Decoration and Clasp. A service of remembrance was held in Calgary on Wednesday, January 26, 2000, with Padre Earle Leslie officiating. At 11:00 a.m. , Monday, June 26, 2000, family and friends will gather for the interment of John's cremains in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery, Thunder Bay.
