Johnston, Bertha Margaret
Bertha Margaret (Newey) passed away Sunday, October 28, 2001. Bron in Callander, Ont. in 1904 she spent most of her life in Port Arthur, Ont. , now Thunder Bay and in Kelowna since 1987. She is survived by one daughter Rosemary Jobson, Kelowna, granddaughter Marianne Murray (John), great grandson Owen, Cape Cod, Mass. , grandson Paul Jobson (Robin), Moncton, N.B. , several nieces and nephews in B.C. , Quebec, and U.S.A. , cousins in England and France. She was predeceased by her husband Harvey in 1969 and a half sister, Lillie Hayward in 1950. Bertha was an ardent worker for over 60 years for the Canadian Cancer Society for which she was awarded the Commemorative Medal of Canada in 1993 in Kelowna. She was a longtime member of the Catholic Women's League and the Liberal Party of Canada. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Prayers will be said at St. Pius X Church on Fuller Ave. , Wednesday, October 31st at 7:00 p.m. and the funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 1st. Cremation will follow.
