Following a courageous battle with cancer, Eila Karkkainen, age 73 of Lyle Street, died peacefully April 6th, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospice. Born 1939 in Lappe, Eila devoted her life to family, church and kindness to others. Survived by daughters Joanne Bird (James) of Winnipeg and Susan (Lost Cowboy Ranch) of Murillo, sisters Katri Niemi and Eini Ylijoki (Arvo), brothers-in-law Bill Muir and Olavi Karkkainen (Freida) and sisters-in-law Betty Makela and Sonja Virtanen, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband Pentti (1991), daughter Karina (1992), brother Ben Haapaniemi (1994), sister Laila Muir (2004), nieces and parents. Heartfelt thanks to staff at TBRHSC and St. Joseph’s Hospice involved in Eila’s care. Special thanks to Dr. Tallon at Highview, Marj Cooper and all who touched our souls. Eila chose cremation. A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm Friday, April 12th at Christ Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Heintz officiating.
