Mr. John Joseph Kenda, age 80 years, a resident of Leslie Avenue, passed away unexpectedly in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital - General on Wednesday, January 16, 2002. Born in Rovna Gora, Yugoslavia, John came to Canada and Port Arthur with his parents at the age of six years. During the Second World War, he served overseas with the Canadian Army, Engineer Corps. An electrician by trade, John was employed by the Ontario Government Services for most of his life, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed gardening, travelling, and especially time spent with his family.John is survived by his wife Helen; son Allan (Pat) of Salmon Arm, BC; daughter Jackie (Al) of Duncan, BC (all here); two grandchildren: Gary (Cheryl), Lori (Andrew); three great-grandchildren, all in Calgary, AB; two sisters: Sophie Nelson of Thunder Bay and Mary (Bill) Spittle of Burlington, ON. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law Robert Nelson.Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 21 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbour Funeral Centre, 499 N. Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Les Skonnord of Salem Lutheran Church. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to time of service. If friends so desire donations may be made in John's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Children's Wish Foundation.
