King, Susan Josephette

Mrs. Susan Josephette King, age 95 years, a resident of Gull Bay First Nation, passed away peacefully in Grandview Lodge, Thunder Bay, on Friday, October 7, 2005. Born on Jackfish Island Reserve No. 57, Lake Nipigon, on September 20, 1910. Susan was the last surviving member of that community. Susan grew up and lived the traditional life in and around the Gull Bay/Lake Nipigon area. She enjoyed trapping, fishing, and hunting which she ably taught to her many grandchildren. She enjoyed family gatherings, especially with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, delighting in their youthful energy. She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Marie (nee Sinoway) Pitchigabow, sisters Martina, Isabelle and Alice, husband Michel King, sons Jack, Samuel, Peter and Allan King, nieces Marie, Lena, Theresa (all of Gull Bay) and nephews Michael and Johnny Belmore. Susan is survived by one son, Stanley King of Gull Bay and nieces Madeliene, Gladys and Edna, nephews Peter Wigwas, and Joseph, Henry and Maurice Belmore, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren in Gull Bay, Armstrong and Thunder Bay. The family wishes to thank Dr. John Nickerson for his many years of devoted care as well as Dr. Caprice for all of her devoted and loving care during grandma's final years. To the staff of Grandview Lodge ("F" Wing and others) for their exceptional care during grandma's final days. Your generosity and devoted care will always be remembered by the family. The family wishes to thank Mr. George Ward and his staff at the Landmark Inn for their generosity. Visitation will be held on Monday evening, October 10th from 7:00 until 9:00 PM in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street with a Vigil Service beginning at 7:30 PM. Following that, removal will be made to Gull Bay for the Funeral Mass to be celebrated by Rev. Randal Morrisseau on Wednesday, October 12th at 2:00 PM in the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Gull Bay Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy in grandma's memory, donations to the Sacred Heart Church in Gull Bay would be appreciated.
