Kivisto, Saara Alina

Mrs. Saara Alina Kivisto, 85 years, of Nipigon, Ontario passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2003 in the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital, Nipigon, Ontario. Saara worked for the Hudson's Bay Company in Nipigon for twenty-five years, retiring in 1983. She was also employed in the Eaton's order office before they closed. Saara was a charter and life member of the Order of the Royal Purple Lodge #337, Nipigon, a member of the Nipigon Silver Club and of St. Mary's Anglican Church. She worked at the BINGOs and was an avid player. She was also an avid Toronto Maple Leaf's fan. Predeceased by her parents - Hilma Nikola and Michael Jalava, by her husband Toivo (1986), by one daughter Diane Anderson (1998), by one brother Vilho and by two sisters - Aili Manilla (& her husband Oliver) and Venda Smith (& her husband Arnold 'Red') and by her daughter-in-law Shirley Kivisto; she is survived by one son Kenneth Kivisto (& his wife Jeanne Bickle) of Bolton, Ontario, by one daughter Linda (& husband Wayne) Asselin of Nipigon, by four grandchildren - Brian Kivisto of Pickering, Ontario, David Kivisto (& Lindsy) of Ajax, Ontario, Shaun Asselin (& fiancee Julie Beange) of Nipigon, and Shannon Asselin (& Joe Ratcliffe) of Lethbridge, Alberta, by one great grandson Camden Kivisto and by special friend Linda Salonen of Nipigon. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Resting at the Elliott Funeral Home Ltd. , Nipigon where friends may call from 4 P.M. until 7 P.M. on Thursday, December 11, 2003. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 12, 2003, at 1 P.M. at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Nipigon with the Rev. D. McClure officiating. Interment will be in Cliffside Cemetery, Nipigon.
