Dorothy Laura Kostreba, age 73 years a resident of Penfold Street, passed away with her family by her side in St Joseph's Hospital, Hospice Unit on
Tuesday February 28th, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dorothy loved to work. She had a successful career employed with Noranda Mines Inc, Great Lakes Paper (Avenor) and most recently a Program Support Officer with North School Resource Alliance. She was very active, always on the go and full of life. She could always be seen walking through the neighbourhood after supper or reading a good novel in her quiet little corner of the backyard. She was an avid cross-country skier who enjoyed a trip or two around Centennial Park or Strathcona Golf course.
Dorothy's pride and joy were her grandchildren. She was always there to cheer on Jordan at his volleyball games or watch a funny movie together. When she would visit Kaitlyn and Josh in Windsor they could be found either picking peaches and pears on the trees in their backyard or taking a dip in the pool. While visiting Braeden and Sydney in Calgary, she enjoyed watching them play hockey, playing board games and taking walks along the Elbow River. She was also fortunate to vacation with them in Hawaii and Florida, which she truly enjoyed.
Dorothy will be sadly missed by George "Joe" Kostreba, her husband of 53 years, her daughter Cheryl (Butch) Wolkowski, , her sons Joseph (Tammy) Kostreba and Brian (Linda) Kostreba, and her grandchildren Jordan Wolkowski, Kaitlyn and Joshua Kostreba and Braeden and Sydney Kostreba. She will also be missed by her sisters Marilyn (Harold) Groombridge and Mona (Gale) Shoemaker. Many nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Peter and Clara Zweep, her father-in-law George Kostreba Sr. and her mother-in-law Dora Kostreba.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 2nd, 2012 in the Chapel of the HARBOURVIEW FUNERAL CENTRE, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev.
