Laing, Elizabeth

Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Gillespie Laing (nee Virtue), in her 81st year, passed away at the Extended Care Wing of the Atikokan General Hospital, on Wednesday, January 3, 2007. Betty was born in Lochgelly, Fife, Scotland on August 31, 1926 and married John Michie Laing on December 6, 1947 in Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1957 and lived in Atikokan, Ontario since 1961. Betty was predeceased by her husband John in 2004. She is survived by her son Ian (Deborah) of Oakville, and grandson Kyle of Oakville and family in Scotland and the Toronto area. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Bert Vancook of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church officiating. Cremation will follow. If friends so desire, memorials to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Betty Laing in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
