Mary Lehtinen, (nee Gawryletz) age 91 years, passed away peacefully in Dawson Court on Monday, July 21, 2008. Mary was born in Canora, Saskatchewan on April 14, 1917. She moved to Toronto, ON as a young woman during WWII, where she met and married Leo Lehtinen, and later moved to Thunder Bay where she raised their four children. She was a devoted mother to her four children: Arvi (Pat), Linda, Allan (Rita), and David (Nazare); devoted grandmother to Jim, Cathy, Michael, Shayna, Jason, Tanya (Cory), Tiffanie (Jeremy), Tamara (Shawn), Jesse (Ti), Landen, Lexi, Lucas, and a devoted great grandmother. She was a very kind and considerate person, remembering everyone's birthdays as well as participating in all special occasions. Mary was a strong and independent woman with a quick wit and a heart of gold. She took on the role of caregiver, not only to her children, but also their friends. She never turned anyone away and always had a place for those who didn‘t. Mary enjoyed traveling, especially to see her niece Jean where they would often embark on new adventures. She loved to play BINGO and had a soft spot for nickel slots at the Casino. She also spent many hours gardening, blueberry picking, and camping with her family. Mary was predeceased by her parents; siblings; and special grandchildren Christopher and Patrick. Funeral Services for the late Mary Lehtinen will be held on Thursday, July 24th, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Ed Long. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of Service. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Mary's memory to a local charity of your choice.
