1926 to 2007 It is with deep sadness that the family of Jack Lindstrom announces his passing on August 6th, 2007 with his family by his side. Jack was born on May 14th, 1926 to Alexandra and Algot Lindstrom in Port Arthur Ontario. Jack grew up in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) and the surrounding area. Jack married the love of his life Eleanor Lehtinen on August 3rd 1945. Jack worked as a conductor for CNR for 38 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Shuniah Lodge NO. 287 and a 40 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the CNRA. Jack spent many years exploring the lakes and streams of northwestern Ontario and passed on his passion for the outdoors to his children and grandchildren. There are many fond memories, as small children, of times spent on Lake Nipigon, Kopka, and numerous others lakes in the area. One guarantee was at the end of each day of fishing there would be a fish fry, refreshments and a game of cards. In their retirement Jack and Eleanor spent time travelling throughout North America. Jack was a passionate gardener always ready to share his secrets. His gardens flourished keeping Eleanor busy making preserves for the family. Jack was always surrounded by a loving family and many good friends and neighbours. In the past few years he enjoyed vacations at Harris Bay with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jack will be missed by his youngest cribbage protégés Sarah, Jonathan and Larissa. Grandpa always had time for a quick game no matter what was going on. Jack was pre-deceased by his wife of 60 years, Eleanor, in November 2005. His mother, Alexandra, sister, Hazel, brothers, Roy and Ray. Jack is survived by: sons Alan (Elaine) of Macau (here), Robert (Allane), daughter Linda Assad of Ottawa (here). Grandchildren Brian, Neil, Wendy (Casey), Sarah, Jonathan and Larissa. Great-grandchildren Bailey, Delainey, and Kelvin. To Auntie Pat and Edith thank you so much for looking after him since Mom's death. Jack and Eleanor celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2005. He always said 60 years was not enough time to spend with his wife and his family takes comfort in the fact they are reunited again. As per Jack's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place. In lieu of flowers donations to Northern Hearts (384 Fort William Rd, Thunder Bay ON P7B 2Z3) or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
