Mr. Mauno Johannes Luoma was called to his heavenly home on Sunday, January 9, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospice with his family at his side. He was born in Isokyro, Finland on August 6, 1934. He came to Thunder Bay at the age of 18 and worked for many years in the forest industry. He continued as a carpenter and was a retired member of the Carpenter's Local Union 1669. He had a strong work ethic, and his craftsmanship can be seen throughout our community. Mauno was a longtime member of Lappe Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed time spent outdoors. Mauno is survived by his wife Gunilla (Ginger), son Timo (Wendy) Luoma, daughter Leila (Karoly) Nagy and 5 precious grandchildren Ashley, Katelyn, Colby (Luoma) and Karolyne and Colin (Nagy). Family in Finland include brothers Rauno (Laila) Luoma, Reino Luoma, Raimo (Kaija) Luoma, and sisters Aino (Tapio) Salonen, Hilkka Rahkovirta, nephews, nieces and other family and friends survive in Finland, also other family and friends survive in Thunder Bay and in the U.S.A. He was predeceased by his parents Aili and Kaarle Luoma in Finland. Funeral services for the late Mr. Mauno Johannes Luoma will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 2:00 PM in Lappe Lutheran Church with Pastor Arron Gust officiating. Interment will follow in Lappe Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be in the Church one hour prior to service time.
