Donald Roderick MacLeod, age 80 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, at St. Joseph's Hospice on March 2, 2013, after a brief illness. Don was born, raised and proudly resided in Thunder Bay, a city in which he loved and lived life to its fullest. He was employed by the City of Thunder Bay for 37 years, and in his final 6 years held the position of Chief Administrative Officer. Don was very involved in the community and in particular the Curling world. He held various positions including President of the Canadian Curling Association. Don is survived by his children Sandra Mazur (Terry Martyn), Dawne-Marie MacLeod (Tom Boyle) and Scott MacLeod (Catherine); devoted grandchildren DJ, Shannon, Michael, Graham, Meghan, Julianna, William and Caroline; precious great grandchildren Tyson, Brett, Bryce and Brooklyn; sister Peggy Beese (Ed); brothers in law Barry Scott (Anne) and Keith Scott (Kathy). Many caring nieces, nephews and cousins survive. A multitude of friends will miss him dearly. Don was predeceased by his loving wife Barbara Ann, parents Henrietta and Angus MacLeod, siblings William MacLeod, Maybelle Cashaback, Mary Tapp, Calum MacLeod and Ada Carrel. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held March 14th, 1-4pm at the Nor'Wester Resort Hotel. Don's family is forever grateful for the amazing care of the dedicated nurses, physicians and support staff of the Hospice Unit at St. Joseph's Care Group. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations to St. Joseph's Care Group would be greatly appreciated.
