The family of Eddie Maki (Jousmaki) sadly announce his passing on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at the T.B.R.H.S.C. after a fall with his family at his bedside. Born in South Gillies on November 5, 1932 to Kristian and Impi, Eddie was raised and educated there. He also completed 2 years of high school at F.W.C.I. Eddie began working at age 16 in the Farmer’s Mercantile Store and then as a sales driver for Canada Bread and McGavin Toastmaster. He also worked for Northland Hardware. In 1969 Eddie started work in custodial and maintenance at the Board of Education and continued working there until his retirement in 1993. Eddie was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and a past member of Cub Scouts of America. Eddie’s favorite pastimes were playing the mandolin or harmonica and feeding the wild birds and his 2 cats. His favorite saying was an old German proverb “too soon oldt and too late smardt”. In times of trouble “Grandpa” was always there with a helping hand and encouragement. His welcoming smile and loving guidance will be greatly missed by his family. Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Betty (Milne), 4 children Lorraine (Glen Gibson), Russell (Laura Cabral), Brian (Cheryl) and Barbara (John Noble), 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother. Lauri and other relatives in Thunder Bay, Southern Ontario and Finland. Respecting Eddie’s wishes a Private Family Service will be held on Monday, May 9th in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay would be appreciated.
