It is with sincere sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend Alfred Wayne Jody Morriseau. Wayne passed away at the age of 50 on Thursday, April 1, 2010 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Wayne will be greatly missed. He had a great sense of humour and liked to tease and make people laugh. He enjoyed pow-wows and was deeply involved with the traditional native teachings and ways. He was also known to friends as Geronimo and Bear Standing Alone. Wayne enjoyed watching hockey and was a huge fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren. He loved native art and was a very good artist himself. Predeceased by his father Alphonse Morriseau, his son Ben Achneepineskum, his granddaughter Jersey Gagnon, three siblings – Daniel, Fabian and Verna Morriseau and his godfather Robert Thompson; he is survived by his mother Patricia Morriseau of Pays Plat, by his children – April (& Todd) Genno and Cheyenne Gagnon (& Kirsten) both of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Linda Adams of Weagamkow Lake, Ontario, Ashley Gagnon (& Chris) of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and Daniel Sakchekapo of Sioux Lookout, Ontario, by his grandchildren – Aiden, Serenity, Ryan and Eryn; Lacey, Kane, Cedar and Emma; Ginger, Jim, Clara, and Szandor; and Morgan, by five siblings – Pierre (& Phyllis) Morriseau and Neil (& Ruth) Morriseau both of Round Lake, Ontario, Vernon Morriseau (& Mary) of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Darlene Morriseau (& Richard) of Pays Plat and Myrna Morriseau (& Charlene) of Nipigon, Ontario and by his godmother Grace Thompson of Lake Helen Reserve. Numerous aunts, uncles nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Resting at the home of his mother, 23 River Street, Pays Plat where friends may call on Thursday, April 8, 2010. Prayers will be offered there at 5 P.M. on Thursday. The funeral mass for Wayne Morriseau will be held on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 10 A.M. at St. Jerome‘s Church in Pays Plat with Father A. Barrion officiating. Interment will be in Pays Plat cemetery.
