Mrs. Eva Opaski (Baba), resident of Holy Cross Villa, passed away on Monday, February 17th, 2003 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She would have celebrated her 91st birthday on March 25th. Born in Dyniska, Poland, at the age of 12 Eva emigrated with her mother to join her father in Canada, settling in Fort William, where she met and married Andrew Opaski and raised their two sons, Lawrence and Gene. Eva was a long time member of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Church, Charter Member and Past President of St. Anne's Society and a member of the Holy Cross Golden Agers. Church and family were most important to Eva and she also enjoyed gardening, shopping, Golden Agers' bingo and bowling and many trips to Hawaii. She is survived by her son Gene and his wife Ann, her daughter-in-law Anne, and 5 grand-children and their families: Gloria Opaski; Andrea and Bryan North and their children Monica, Benjamin and Alexander; Larry and Sharon Opaski and their children Larry (Guelph), Sean and Sara; Patrick and Sherry Opaski and their children Dennis and his wife Marie (Toronto), Christopher and Bryan; and Steven Opaski of Calgary and sister-in-law Stella Zatulsky, as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents Ignatius (Hnat) and Julia Zatulsky both in 1969, husband Andrew in 1982, son Lawrence in 1999 and brother Micheal in 2000. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 24th when friends and family will gather for Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Cross, celebrated by Very Rev. Bob Bilinsky. A private service of interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Panachyda will be offered on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the Church. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends desire, memorials to the Holy Cross Church Memorial Fund or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.A tree will be planted in memory of Eva Opaski in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
