It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Carl Arne Ostrom on Monday, December 29, 2003 at the age of 80. Arne was born on November 15, 1923 in Sweden to parents Klas and Annie Ostrom. He moved to Port Arthur with his family at an early age. Arne attended Pine Street School, Port Arthur Technical Institute and Port Arthur Business College. He worked in the office at the Port Arthur Shipyards for thirty one years, then together with his wife Marjatta, started the family business, Thunder Bay Steam Carpet Cleaners in 1972. Arne retired from the business in 1992. He married the former Marjatta Langen on May 15, 1953, and they recently celebrated their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary. Arne was a family man and an avid reader who was known for his keen sense of humour. Arne is survived by his wife Marjatta; son Brian (Katie); four brothers: Seren (Vi), John (Olga), Ron (Shirley) and Ernest (Nora); brother-in-law Eino Langen (Eila) and sister-in-law Audrey Langen of British Columbia. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sister Ada Brink and brother-in-law Elis Langen. According to Arne's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Dan Repo of Christ Lutheran Church. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to time of Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arne's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
