Mrs. Donna Pearson (nee Gordon), age 68, passed away in St. Joseph’s Hospice on Saturday, September 11, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Donna was born in Kenora, Ontario on January 31, 1942 and grew up in Marathon. She moved to Thunder Bay to attend nursing college at McKellar General Hospital in 1959, graduating in 1962. Most of her nursing career was spent with the V.O.N. and later at Thunder Bay Homes for the Aged. Donna had a lifetime involvement with the Girl Guides of Canada and served as District Commissioner, as well as an avid supporter of Polly Lake Girl Guide Camp. In her later years the Trefoil Guild held a special place in her heart. She also volunteered for the V.O.N.’s foot care clinic at the 55+ Centre. Donna enjoyed spending time at the camp in Ignace but her greatest love was being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Wayne, daughters Lana (Geoff) Davison, Melanie (Louis) Morrow, grandchildren Jack and Alex Davison, Meagan Morrow, Riley Morrow and Sydney Morrow, sister Nan Gordon-Lahti, sisters-in-law Myrna Grace, Joan (David) Knudsen and Lynda (Bill) Roukkula, lifelong friend, Patricia Kuper, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was predeceased by her parents Alec and Mabel Gordon, step-father Robert Gibson, sister Marilyn Green and brothers-in-law Robert Grace and David Lahti. A memorial service will be held in her honour at the Oliver Road Community Centre, 563 Oliver Road, on Friday, September 17 from 1-3pm, with rememberances at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Northern Cancer Fund would be appreciated.
