The Scherban family is saddened by the loss of their loving, gentle husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and brother. Mr. Victor Scherban age 82 years, of Thunder Bay passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2003 at St. Joseph's Hospice after a brief illness. Victor was born in Rossburn, Manitoba. He moved with his family to Thunder Bay in 1936, where he completed High School at Port Arthur Tech. Victor served with the Royal Canadian Navy from 1942 to 1945. He worked at Canada Car and Steep Rock Mine before he became Operation Accounts Supervisor with Ontario Hydro from 1948 until 1966. For the next 20 years he worked for the Department of National Revenue and retired in 1986 as Field Audit Supervisor. In 1964 he became a Registered Industrial Accountant. Victor continued to be a member of the Society of Industrial and Cost Accountants of Ontario, he was a director of F.E.S.N.A. , director of the East Floral Beach Campers Association and a past director and treasurer of Oliver Road Presbyterian Church. Victor's main interests were his family and home, he enjoyed going to the cottage, gardening, painting and was an avid reader with a zest for learning. Victor is survived by his wife of 56 years Dorothy, sons Mike (Gayle) and their children Joel and Matthew, Danny (Kathleen) and their children Christopher and Victoria, sisters Anne and Helen, brothers Bill and Andy and many nieces and nephews. Victor will also be sadly missed by his constant furry companion Tiger. Victor was predeceased by his parents Lena and Jacob and in-laws Hilja and Mike Mitchell, sister-in-law Lola and brothers-in-law John and Martin. Funeral services for the late Victor Scherban will be held on Thursday September 4, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma with Rev. Lloyd Ivany officiating.
