Dr. Fentey Scott passed awaypeacefully in Montreal on Monday, February 4th, at age 68 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Fentey was born in Barbados, and came to Canada in 1968 after obtaining a degree in Classics at the University of London and completing his teacher training at the London University Institute of Education. He began his career in Education as a classroom teacher and became an educational administrator following the completion of his Ph. D. Fentey joined the Faculty of Education at Lakehead University in 1989, retiring at the rank of professor in 2004. In addition to his teaching and research, Fentey served as Acting Dean of the Faculty in 1998-1999. He was an outstanding scholar, teacher, leader and mentor who made many contributions locally, nationally and internationally. He was well respected by all who knew him for his gracious and considerate manner in all circumstances, his gentle sense of humour, his commitment to students and colleagues, and his sense of justice and fairness. Fentey also brought his skills and enthusiasm to many community endeavours. Above all, Fentey was a man who enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, and he took great pride in their many accomplishments. He kept in touch with his extended family and many friends, and he and Emily traveled often to visit with them. He is mourned by his loving and beloved family circle: his wife Emily, his daughter Paula (Winnipeg), his sons Michael (Montreal) and Ian (Montreal); two sisters, Avril (Barbados) and Eileen (Bahamas), and two brothers, Neville (B.C. ) and Kenneth (Barbados), as well as numerous relatives, colleagues and friends, whom he loved and valued very highly. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation Tamarack House Fund, the Regional Multicultural Youth Council in Thunder Bay, or a charity of choice will be greatly appreciated. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 14th, at St. George's Anglican Church, Montreal, at the corner of Peel and La Gauchetiere.
