Spicer, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Peggie Spicer, aged 88 years, resident of South Brodie Street died on December 21, 2002. Born in Dysert Kirkcaldy Fife Scotland, she came to Canada (Port Arthur) in 1924. She was the daughter of the late Catherine and William Kilpatrick. She received her education at Prospect School, and Port Arthur Tech. Married Lloyd Gordon Spicer in Port Arthur on June 29, 1940. Wedding ceremony conducted by Reverend McMann of Lakeview Presbyterian Church. Employed with T.E. Eaton for 8 years and Chapples Department Store for 17 years, retiring in 1974. A long time active member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Thunder Bay. A member of Topaz Rebekah Lodge 316 for over 60 years. Past Chief of Pythian Sisters Welcome Temple 7. Past Grand Chief of Ontario. Past Supreme representative of Supreme Lodge Pythian Sisters. She was a strong supporter of humanitarian endeavors. She volunteered her time graciously to the Lakehead Association for Community Living, the Centre for the Deaf and the Canadian Cancer Society for several years. Her main interests were her family and friends, and she enjoyed her bingo and as many hours as possible at the family built camp at Lenore Lake. She loved to travel, and her hands were never still, they were either knitting a pair of slippers, an afghan, or baking a pie for a flea market or friend. She is survived by daughter Moreen (Allan) McFarlane, daughter Elaine(Ken)Haggerty, son Ken (Anne)Spicer. Granddaughters Susan McFarlane (Mike)McDermott of Calgary, Donna (Steve)Boyington, Jennifer(Darryl)Fawcett and Lynette Spicer of Thunder Bay. Grandsons Rob McFarlane, Gord (Elizabeth)Haggerty, Jeff (Allyson)Haggerty, and Andrew Spicer. Great grandsons Aiden McDermott and Kyle Boyington. Sister Margaret (Freeburn)Geddes, and sisters-in-law Florence Kilpatrick, Isobel Spicer, brothers-in-law Bill Spicer, Bob(Ann)Spicer, Allan (Shirley) Spicer as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband Lloyd, sisters Catherine Speak and Mary Currie, brother John (Jock) Kilpatrick. Sisters-in-law Doris Varley, Alice Spicer, Martha Spicer, Myrtle Lilley and Muriel Spicer. Brothers-in-law Syd Speak, Neil Currie, Norman Lilley, Art, Fred, and Roy Spicer, nephew Douglas Speak, niece Catherine Spicer. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2002 at 11 o'clock in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bert Vancook officiating. A private family interment will take place in Mountain View Cemetery. . In lieu of flowers memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society, Lakehead Association for Community Living, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, The Diabetic Association, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.A tree will be planted in memory of Mrs. Elizabeth Spicer in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
