Taylor, Edna

Edna passed away in the T.B.R.H.S.C. on Sunday, September 20, 2009. Born in Winnipeg she came to Thunder Bay with her family when her father came to open Eaton's first store in 1927. Edna worked at St. Joseph's Hospital for many years as Director of Finance and when St. Joseph's Heritage was built she was appointed Director of Finance and Housing there. She loved her work. She was the original Benny Birch! After retirement, Edna became a volunteer at the Thunder Bay Food Bank and served as chairperson of the Board of Directors for a number of years. She also worked in the food distribution section regularly. Edna was an active member of St. Paul's United Church. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, was a member of Session, chairperson of the Church Family Committee for many years, a strong supporter of Unit 6 of the U.C.W. and a member of the Board of Trustees. She also did Dial-A-Message. She was predeceased by her parents James and Anne Taylor, her sister and brother-in-law Peggy and George MacDonell, and her brother-in-law Bud Martin. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Martin and her three dearest special friends, Sister Leila Greco, Betty Bliss and Brenda Coopman. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul's United Church, Waverley Street, with Rev. Jann Sampson and Rev. Hugh MacDonald presiding. In lieu of flowers memorials to the St. Joseph's Foundation (Sister Leila Greco Staff Education Fund) or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
