Turner, Allan

It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Allan Hugh Turner on Wednesday, June 30, 2004.Allan was born on June 4, 1930, one of 11 children to the late Joe and Mona Turner.He was raised on a farm in the Ottawa Valley.In 1951, he joined the Royal Canadian Armed Forces and served for 20 years being stationed in Montreal, Comox B.C. , Germany, Ontario and Alberta. In 1970, Allan retired from the military to pursue a teaching career.He graduated from OSSI in May 1971 as well as graduating from Lakehead University with a BA and Hon. Bachelor of ED in 1974. He began teaching electrical skills at Selkirk High School in September 1971 where he remained for 14 years.Allan also taught Math for one year at Hillcrest and Special Education at PACI for four years, retiring in 1989.Allan loved learning and preparedhimself as a Financial Advisor with Primerica Financial Services, retiring in 2002.Allan was a faithful member of Knights of Columbus Council 7332 and Father Baxter 4th Degree Assembly.He served as Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator and was presently the District Warden inthe Thunder Bay District 14 of Ontario.He has been a member of Corpus Christi Parish since 1971, and was presently a member of the Finance Committee and the Renovations Committee.Allan loved life and believed in a healthy lifestyle and was a chartered member of Confederation College Fitness Center.He was a great runner and participated in many local running events until he had a serious accident when he broke his back.He recovered and had a morning walking routine that he did faithfully until his death.Allan was an avid cross-country skier and instructor.He also loved to cycle, play squash and tennis.Allan was a great family man and was so proud of his children and grandchildren. Allan will be dearly missed by his soul mate, loving wife for 49 years and best friend, Vi (Downey), his son Grant, grandchildren Erin and Cameron and their mother Pauline, brothers Phil (Joan), Bill (Janet), Frank (Joyce), Leo (Judy), Eddie (Terry), Wayne (Janice) and sisters Mary, Eileen, Margaret, Anne, brothers and sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his daughter Roxanne on October 7, 1997.Funeral services will be held onMonday, July5, 2004 when family and friends will gather for the Funeral Mass in Corpus Christi Church at 10:00am celebrated by Rev. P.M. Stilla.Interment will follow at St. Andrew's Cemetery.Visitation will be on Sunday July4, 2004 from 2-8pm with Vigil Services being offered at 7:00pm in the Blake Funeral Chapel.The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations to the Corpus Christi Renovation Committee, 664 Red River Road, Lakehead Social Planning Council, 125 S.Syndicate Avenue or a charity of their choice would be appreciated.A tree will be planted in memory of Allan Turner in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.Annual dedicationservice Sunday, June 26, 2005.On-line Condolencesmay be sent towww.blakefuneralchapel.com
