Robert John "Jack" Turner

Jack Turner, 81, of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully on August 6th, 2010, at Grandview Lodge. Jack was born and raised in Westfort village, one of eight children born to the late Mary and Hilton Turner where he attended Francis Street School. Jack was too young to enlist during WWII, so he worked construction until he started his own business and employed his brothers who returned home from the war. He was involved in many local endeavors, including the proprietorship of a taxi service, Turner Bus Lines, Budget Rent-A-Car, Murillo Tavern and Northern Engineering Supply Company (NESCO). Jack even fulfilled a life long goal of operating his own farm when he purchased 24 head of cattle for his property on Highway 61.

Jack is survived by his beloved children Jackie Little and Lorri Turner, daughters of the late Lorraine Reed and Robert and Raymond Turner, sons of Jane MacBride, his devoted brothers Bill and Syd Turner, loving sisters Minnie Hansen, Alice Chorney and Connie Lake, his treasured grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews as well as his caring in-laws and countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife and two brothers, Ray and Tom. Jack loved nothing more than to roll up his sleeves and work hard. The rare spare time he earned was spent with his loving family. Jack touched the lives of many people with his incredible work ethic and maintained his trademark sense of community ties throughout his professional and personal life. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday, August 17th, 2010, at 1:30pm at St. Thomas Anglican Church, 1400 Edward Street South, Westfort.
