1919 - 2010
Margje Van Geem passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 19, 2010. Margje was born in Haarlem, The Netherlands. She married Jan Van Geem in 1938. In 1952 she immigrated to Canada with her husband and son and daughter. The family settled in Port Arthur. Margje was devoted to her family and her home. She was an expert dressmaker and until her eyesight failed, spent many happy hours making clothing for herself, her daughter and granddaughters. She volunteered at the Port Arthur General Hospital for many years as the knitting convener for the Gift Shop. In 1988 The Hospital Auxiliary awarded her with an Honorary Life Membership. Margje was predeceased by her husband of 58 years Jan, her parents, two sisters and an infant great grandson. She will be missed and remembered with love by: daughter Joan Klaas, son Kees Van Geem and his wife Judith, Durham, Ontario; grandchildren: Robert Klaas and his wife Chrissy, Janis Gummeson and her husband Gary, Susan Macey and her fiancee Gary Prezio, David Van Geem and his wife Lisa, Geoffrey Van Geem and his wife Stephanie, Brian Van Geem and his wife Cathy and Stephanie Boice, one sister in The Netherlands, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews in Canada and The Netherlands. Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Margje’s wishes, there will not be a Service. Interment will take place at a later date. Should friends so desire, donations in Margje’s memory may be made to St. Joseph’s Care Group attention: HOSPICE. Arrangements in care of Sargent and Sons.
