Down to must-win situations

Pedro Adan, left, of the Thunder Bay Chill and Germano Neves, right, chase a Des Moines Menace player  during USL Two soccer action in Des Moines on Thursday. Des Moines struck in the seventh minute off a penalty kick from Nicolas Perea and the Menace never looked back en route to a 3-0 win. James Thomas (46th minute) and Mario Mastrangelo (57th minute) also scored for the Menace (10-0-3), who have already sewn up the Heartland Division regular season title. The loss drops the Chill to 6-4-2. Thunder Bay now needs to defeat Des Moines on Saturday and the Green Bay Voyageurs on Sunday in order to hop over second-place Kaw Valley FC. A loss or draw in any of those two games will result in the Chill missing the playoffs for a second consecutive year.
