Evan DeGrazia sealed the deal with a birdie putt on No. 18 at the Mallon’s Play It Again Sports Better Ball championship on Sunday at Strathcona Golf Course. It was only fitting his father — and playing partner — on this weekend was the first to react.
“Oh yes!” exclaimed the elder DeGrazia as the ball dropped through, adding a fist pump for good measure.
The father-son duo claimed their first Better Ball championship after carding a 64 on Sunday to go with a 65 on Sunday.
The DeGrazias, with a 129 total, edged out Jason Johnstone and Gareth Payne by three shots.
The pairs were in a three-way tie with Chris Gardner and Tyler Rolfe entering the final round, but the DeGrazias’ steady play was enough to drive the ship home in the latest tournament on the Thunder Bay District Golf Association schedule.
“It’s great. Father’s Day and get the win,” said Evan DeGrazia, who has played with John at previous Thunder Bay Country Club and Fort William Country Club Invitationals. “It couldn’t be any better.”
