Skirvings welcome Kelly Cup

From left, Doris Skirving, her son Todd and her husband Rod sit with the Kelly Cup ECHL championship in their hometown of Thunder Bay on Friday. Todd Skirving is a member of the Newfoundland Growlers team that won the minor pro hockey championship last spring. He brought the Cup home and held a gathering for family and friends. Skirving played 26 regular season games and five playoff games for the Growlers, who defeated the Toledo Walleye in six games in the ECHL final. Skirving signed a one-year extension with the Growlers — a Toronto Maple Leafs affiliate — last month. The ECHL regular season opens on Oct. 11.
