The Region ‘s mission is ….
To provide the design,construction,and maintenance of highways and roads under the jurisdiction of the
Department.
The Regional Offices provide management,administration,and field engineering services to deliver such
programs as the construction and maintenance of the Provincial Trunk Highways and Provincial Roads networks,
winter roads,roads in former Local Government Districts,and Grant-in-Aid Programs to municipalities,cities,
towns and villages.Regional Staff include Managers,Engineers,Technologists,Supervisors,Labourers,Drafting
Technicians and Clerical.The province is structured in the following five regions;Steinbach (Region 1),Portage la
Prairie (Region 2),Brandon (Region 3),Dauphin (Region 4),and Thompson (Region 5).Each Region is structured
into the following four operating sections:Administration,Maintenance,Construction and Technical Services.

Qualifications:Completion of Civil Engineering Technologist or Civil Engineering Technician education and
training or Department Level II training courses and several years experience directly related to Roadway
Construction.Experience in survey and inspection (material testing)on roadway construction projects is essential.
Knowledge and experience in construction methods,standards,specifications,policies and procedures is an asset.
Computer experience is essential.Must have knowledge of Occupational Safety,Health &Risk Management
policies and procedures.Candidates must be able to demonstrate the Critical Competencies as listed in the
Technical Role Profile (i.e.Communication,Interpersonal,Leadership,Managing for Results,Self Management,
and Thinking and Decision Making clusters)as listed in the position description.Must have a valid Class 5 driver ‘s
licence.The successful candidate must be physically capable of performing all required tasks,be able to work
in an outdoor rough terrain environment in both winter and summer,be able and willing to travel to work sites
within the province by ground and air transportation which may require overnight stays and working extended
hours.Duties:
The Roadway Construction Inspector (RCI)reports to the Project Manager and receives Lead Hand
supervision from the Roadway Construction Technician.The RCI performs various engineering functions including
roadway inspection,plant (asphalt/concrete)inspection,winter road inspection and survey.The position adheres
to department standards,specifications,policies,procedures and sound survey practices.
