Previous shows have been purely garden shows. With this year‘s addition of a home component, numbers and variety increased. Thousands of visitors passed by more than 150 booths, presentations and displays in five buildings. “I go by what my vendors say, and they‘re all happy,” show chairwoman Judy Anderson said Sunday. “They‘re all doing extremely well.” Among this year‘s presenters was Feng Shui consultant Carol Ruth Stonehouse, who spoke at the show last year and presented a seminar on Sunday. “What we see outside from the inside influences how we feel, and it also influences the energy in the home,” said Stonehouse, who has been providing Feng Shui advice to residents and businesses in Thunder Bay for six years. She explains the purpose of Feng Shui as ensuring a flow of positive energy in an area, by manipulating the placement of elements such as plants and water. “Feng Shui is all about the energies of the environment, buildings, people and time, and how they all interact,” said Stonehouse. “What you‘re doing is . . . going with the flow.” Although Feng Shui originated in China, she emphasized that a proper Feng Shui arrangement does not necessarily have to follow an Eastern esthetic. “A (Feng Shui) landscaping certainly doesn‘t have to be Zen-like or anything like that – it‘s flexible,” said Stonehouse. Other seminar subjects at the show included attracting wildlife to backyards, landscaping do‘s and don‘ts, and landscaping with stone. Top of Page |
