Health Care Professional Appreciation Week runs from Oct. 17-24. During the week, thank-you cards will be available at health clinics, nursing homes, hospitals, libraries and city facilities. The messages, addressed to nurses, technicians, pharmacists, therapists, physicians, paramedics, social workers and other health-care providers, will be delivered at the end of the campaign. Thank-yous can also be sent electronically through www.sendthanks.ca. “We‘re hoping the community will get on board and acknowledge the wonderful care that our health-care providers provide for us each and every day,” said Cheryl Armstrong, community relations co-ordinator for the City of Thunder Bay. “Everyone has a story about the wonderful treatment they have received,” she added. Armstrong said health-care professionals who receive cards don‘t expect to be thanked, but they appreciate it. “They‘re very humble about things like this . . . but they appreciate reading all of the cards from their patients and they enjoy the comments,” she said. Three-year-old Benjamin Savor was the first person to fill out a thank-you card this year. He thanked Dr. Teresa Bruni and the nurses of the pediatric outpatient department at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Benjamin was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in March 2006 and is scheduled to finish his treatments in May 2009. To celebrate Health Care Professional Appreciation Week, The Chronicle-Journal will carry profiles of various professionals who provide care in our community. The series begins Sunday. Top of Page |
