FINNS & FRIENDS FUNDRAISER – Join F-Fest today, a Finns & friends family fundraiser and friendraiser for Pohanpirtti - a summer based community hall built by Finnish ancestors at Surprise Lake to celebrate all things near and dear to the Finnish spirit such as sauna, friends & dancing. Activities include: garage sale, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at 3010 Dawson Road; family picnic, 2-4 p.m. $5 or pay what you can with all proceeds to Pohanpirtti; dance 8-11 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door. Contests include Lappe Idol and so You Think You Can Tango. Sunday activities will include yoga, sauna, swim & pancakes, 9 -11 a.m. $10 at the door. For more information, call Marleen at 627-6132.

SWEET HONEY & HEALTHY BEES – Tues., July 21, the Food Action Network will host a Sweet Honey and Healthy Bees workshop at Waverley Library, 6 p.m. Come learn about the local practice of keeping bees and harvesting their honey. Tasting is encouraged. To register, call 625-8343.

2009 PRIZE BOOKS – The Creative Arts Committee of the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition announces 2009 prize books for the Summer Fair are now available. The CLE will be held August 5-9 and the prize book details competitive categories, opportunities for display, prize amounts, rules & dates for entry. Pick up your copy at the CLE office, 425 Northern Ave. Closing date for entry forms is July 24, 7 p.m.

INTRODUCTION TO STORING YOUR HARVEST WORKSHOP – Join the Food Action Network, Tues., July 28 for an introduction to storing your harvest workshop at the Waverley Resource Library, 6 p.m. Participants will learn how to put food away so they can enjoy the virtues of local produce all year round.
