Thunder Bay‘s Lucas Scocchia has been selected to participate for Team Ontario in the 2009 Under-17 Baseball Canada Cup in Kindersley, Sask., which began Wednesday.
Scocchia, a 16-year-old right-handed pitcher, is a Port Arthur Nationals Little League graduate, who began his quest in May for Team Ontario at the Ontario Cup in Guelph.
Scocchia made the initial cut of 40 players out of 186 top potential contenders and returned to Oshawa last week for the final tryout where he was selected to the 20-man roster as one of six pitchers. Scocchia could potentially also see action at first base and designated hitter during the event.
