Ashlyn Cook was the match-winning hero, sliding home the only goal of the game at the 15-minute mark. Chill coach Brent Mandryk said after the game that the key to his side‘s success was the way that the girls kept their defensive shape. Full credit to both the young teams, though, with over 400 people in attendance for the matchup. On Saturday, Soccer Northwest will be holding its 35th annual general meeting. The event will be hosted at the Prince Arthur Hotel at 3 p.m. with the elections of directors included on the agenda. As part of the AGM weekend, Soccer Northwestern Ontario will be presenting the inaugural Northern Coaching Conference. The guest coach is Alex McNutt from the Ontario Soccer Association who also has a background coaching Liverpool‘s youth program and academy. McNutt holds his UEFA A license and is currently the head coach of Carleton University‘s women‘s soccer program. Sessions run from noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. on Sunday at the Sports Dome. In youth soccer action, Sydney Johnson found the net four times for the Express under-11 girls in a 4-4 tie with the under-12 boys. Today will see the return of the men‘s league and a full schedule of games in the women‘s league on Thursday. Only two England Premiership games were played over the weekend due to bad weather with both Arsenal and Manchester United dropping points with ties against Everton and Birmingham respectively. League-leading Chelsea has the opportunity to increase their margin at the top with a home game against Sunderland. Finally, the Canadian player of the year awards were handed out to Simeone Jackson and Christine Sinclair, who took the honor for the fifth straight year.
