This upcoming weekend, two local clubs will travel to Toronto, to participate in the Ontario Indoor Cup finals.
Teams from the Thunder Bay Chill will look for success in the under-18 boys division and also in the under-13 boys and girls age groups.
Lakehead Express will challenge in the under-18 girls competition.
All the games are scheduled for the Soccer Center in Vaughn, commencing on Saturday.
Meetings were held in Toronto this past week to discuss the long term player development plan for young players across the country.
Representatives from the Canadian Soccer Association and provincial reps were in attendance to provide an overview on the subject through presentations and workshops.
Also on the agenda was a discussion on coaching education at the provincial, regional, district and club levels.
Joey Caputo potted a pair of markers and Kurt Begall scored the other goal for league Division I leaders, Confederation College as the students blanked Fury 3-0.
Mike Veneziale also had a pair of goals as the Frying Dutchmen got the better of TBaytel 3-1.
The Fox and Hedgehog beat Azurri 7-0 mainly thanks to five goals from Jordan Devito. Cody Atkinson and Gregory Talin rounded out the scoring.
Mirror Mirror edged the Red Devils 5-4 in a shootout and LEX played Bar United to a scoreless tie.
Steve Adams notched a pair of markers as Venom beat Inter City 3-1 and Blizzard downed United 6-1.
Inter beat Shock 7-2 with Steve Castonguay hitting the target four times, but his side was held 2-2 by United in a rescheduled fixture.
Jess Mithrush was amongst the goal scorers as the under-19 girls picked up a pair of victories in women‘s Division I action.
Mithrush grabbed a hat trick in the 5-2 result over Lakehead University and scored twice more in the 5-0 win over the under-13 boys.
Two goals apiece for Breanne Pasqualino and Amanda Ruberto as Impact hold on to top spot with a 4-1 victory over the under-15 girls and LU edged Impact Orange 1-0.
Megan Graca with a deuce, Jenna Holm and Amber Carli were amongst the goals as the under-17 White squad blanked the under-15 boys.
Aaron Johnston tallied six markers as the under13 boys beat the girls 7-5.
A couple of strikes from Jenna Ward helped Fusion beat AllTemp 3-0 in second division play. Also scoring twice were Miranda Thibeault and Tiffany Moffat as Confederation College beat the Legends 7-3.
Jasmine Hughes was on the scoresheet to help Lakehead Printing beat Cook Tigers 3-1 and Kim Shewchuk hit the winner as Spartans overcame Mr. Lube 3-2.
Although Arsenal fielded a below strength team against Stoke City this past Sunday, it was still an upset to see the Gunners fall 3-1 and be knocked out of this season‘s FA Cup.
Tottenham were also surprised, being held 2-2 at home to Leeds United.
The second leg of the Carling Cup semifinal goes this week with Manchester City holding a 2-1 advantage over cross-town rivals United.
The winner will go on to face Aston Villa at Wembley.
Wayne Rooney hit all four goals as United beat Hull 4-0 in the Premier League and Inter got the better of the Milan derby recording a 2-0 win over AC.
