Getting ready to plant

Jason Dallaire, a worker with the Thunder Bay Botanical Conservatory, plants a pollinator bed in front of the green houses on Tuesday. The bed is one of four pollinator beds that will attract butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. The beds, which will be located at Hillcrest Park, Vickers Park, Friendship Gardens and at the conservatory, will have a variety of perennials that attract pollinating birds and insects. Meanwhile, conservatory staff have been working at city parks preparing the beds for planting. It is safe to plant after the June full moon, which happens this year on June 13. Conservatory staff have been monitoring temperatures, which have been hovering around 7 C through the night, with the same predicted for this week, and have begun planting.
