Lining up beside two Special Olympics athletes, Mingwei Chen arranged his arms and snowshoe-clad feet into a racing stance.

At the cue of “racer ready, go,” the three burst from the imaginary start line, knees up high, arms pumping as Chen learned a few things about snowshoe racing.

An international student at Lakehead University, this is Chen’s first year in Thunder Bay and Sunday was the first time he stepped into a pair of snowshoes at the city’s FunDay activity at Prince Arthur’s Landing.
