Customers on rise

The parking lot of Odena Foods has seen more traffic over the last two weeks as the customer base has grown.

While about half the businesses in the Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge have closed because of COVID-19 prevention measures, at least two are seeing an increase in traffic in the village of Kakabeka Falls.

Kent Maijala, owner of Odena Foods, said they have seen a steady flow of people since March 13 “and it hasn’t stopped since, people are just coming in and filling carts.”

As a smaller grocery store with fewer employees than the bigger stores in nearby Thunder Bay, Maijala said they are doing their best to keep up with demand as people from the city continue to show up.
