Canada will buy nearly 8 million COVID-19 test kits, once they are approved

U.S.-based Abbott Laboratories’ ID NOW testing device for COVID-19 can produce results from a nasal swab in as little as 13 minutes. So far in Canada, tests have been done at public health clinics, with samples then sent to laboratories for analysis — a process that can take days. A point-of-care test like this one can be administered by trained professionals in other settings.
