A HUGE Thumbs Down to a doggedly dangerous driver. On Feb. 25 around 3:30 p.m. a white Mitsubishi Lancer was travelling north on Golf Links Road, driven by a woman with a medium-to-large yellow dog in the driver’s seat. “The dog was visible to me in the driver’s side window but the driver was not. The vehicle was travelling more than 15 kilometres below the speed limit and there is no way the driver had full visibility of the road or was not distracted. Do not put others at risk.”

THUMBS Down to the person who continually parks in the handicap spot at St. Pius School all day with no permit. “This does not reflect the values of the school and does not teach our children well. Does this person do that everywhere, taking a spot from someone who needs it?”

THUMBS Up to the Blacksheep Mountain Bike Club. “With the Snowdog trail grooming machine the club purchased this year, a handful of dedicated Blacksheep volunteers have been extra busy grooming the many trails within Trowbridge, Shuniah Mines and access points to the Cascades. Thanks to them, walkers, runners as well as the club’s fat-tire bike riders have all been able to enjoy those amazing trails throughout this snowy winter. Very much appreciated.”

TRAIL mix: Two Thumbs Up to Lakehead University for “world class trail maintenance. It’s the best section in the city.” However, two Thumbs Down to the city for the poor trail maintenance by the college. “It’s the worst maintained section in the city.”

THUMBS Down to St. Joseph’s Care Group cafeteria hours. “Open 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday is bad enough; 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekends and holidays? How disrespectful and inconvenient for staff and visitors, and downright cruel to clients facing long-term stays and mobility compromises. It’s time to put the ‘care’ back into this facility.”

THUMBS Up to a City sidewalk plow operator working on March 8. “We live beside a public walkway and typically they plow it and place (snow) right around the corner, against our boulevard. We had a huge frozen lump of ice/snow at our driveway due to overrun of this and the operator cleared it away. Awesome job. Thanks.
