Thunder Bay’s Hannah Gula performs a lift during the Ontario Weightlifting Association championships in Scarborough, Ont., on Nov. 11. Competing in the 59-kilogram female division, Gula successfully lifted 170 pounds (77 kg) and 210 pounds (95kg) to win the provincial crown and advance to the 2023 nationals this spring. Gula, a 24-year-old personal trainer in town, competed on Team Canada at the Pan American Championships and has goals of lifting at the world championships and 2024 Olympics.
