A crashing halt

Lakehead Thunderwolves’ Tiffany Reynolds, left, dribbles the ball against Kayah Clarke of the Windsor Lancers during the first round of the OUA women’s basketball playoffs at St. Denis Athletic Centre on Wednesday night. The Thunderwolves’ season came to a screeching halt at the hands of the No. 6-ranked Lancers in a lopsided 96-42 loss. Clarke led Windsor with 21 points and nine rebounds and Olivia Osamusali added 14 points. Sofia Lluch and Nikki Ylagan were the leading scorers for LU with 10 points apiece. Ylagan, playing in her final game with the Thunderwolves (8-15), also earned two steals, but went 0-for-2 from beyond the arc. Fellow senior Lily Gruber-Schulz ended with four points and seven games in her last game before graduation. The Lancers jumped out to a 20-9 lead after the first quarter and pushed the bump to 19 points at the half at 42-23. One more dominant quarter which saw Windsor outscore Lakehead 33-8 sealed the deal. The Lancers will visit St. Catharines, Ont., this weekend to face the Brock Badgers in a do-or-die quarterfinal match. Meanwhile, the Thunderwolves men’s team learned they will host the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday at C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse in the conference quarterfinals. Laurier edged the Queen’s Gaels 91-81 in first-round action on Wednesday.
