Newly minted hockey celebrity David Ayres’ helmet was designed in Thunder Bay. Ayres made headlines around the sports world for earning a win for the Carolina Hurricanes as a Zamboni driver/emergency backup goaltender over the weekend. Ayres hired Thunder Bay’s Brian Shott to paint the decorations on his goalie helmet. Shott, who runs BMFS Designs, started painting masks as a hobby six years ago, has several designs worn by netminders in the OHL, WHL and QMJHL as well as local beer leagues, but Ayres’ appearance marked the first time one of Shott’s helmets made it to the NHL. Shott does take orders. Visit him at  www.instagram.com/bmfsdesigns or contact bmfsdesigns@gmail.com.
